Importance of our Work - Pakistan
Poverty in Pakistan is widespread with the country estimated to have one of the largest concentration of poor people in the world and housing a third of the world's poor. Pakistan has much higher rates of poverty than in neighboring India.73.6% of Pakistan's population, or 122 million people, live under $2 a day, and some 17% live under $1 a day. Despite Pakistan being one of the poorest nations in the world it is often forgotten about in favor of other countries and receives limited levels of help from international charities, part of the reason for this include lack of poverty awareness, security issues and very low levels of funding.
Muslims make up 95% of Pakistan's people. Hindus make up 1.5% and Christian 1.7%. 70% of the Christian population is in the poorest segment of society. The growth of the Christian church is calculated at 3.9%
